19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
