Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
